This is "Mantinha", an upcycled patchwork quilt made of fabric scraps/waste that can be used as a playmat for the kids, as a bedcover, as a wall decor piece or whatever use you might want to give it.
These scraps are made of:
• Organic Cottons
• Khadi Cotton from India
• Hand-printed fabrics by pankuka
• Hand-printed fabrics from indian artisans
• Handwoven Cottons
• Naturally dyed cottons by pankuka
The back of the quilt is done using a shibori indigo dyed cotton, an experiment made by the block-printer Aurangzeb Khatri, an indian artisan and friend with who i learned and worked while i was living in India.
The interior is made with cotton filling.
I used an identical quilt as a playmat for my daughter, since she was a newborn - she is now 2 years old. Whenever she wants to play or paint and draw on the floor, she always asks for the "Mantinha" (is the portuguese word for a cover or a throw).
You can wash it anytime, using cold or warm water and a gentle soap and gentle washing machine cycle.
If with time, the scraps start to become old, you can replace them with scraps of your own, just by sewing the new ones over the old ones.
